The Society Lottery

In October 2023, Macmillan carried out an internal re-organisation of its lottery activity. From 6 October 2023, the weekly Macmillan Lottery is promoted by Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan Cancer Support is licensed and regulated in Great Britain by the Gambling Commission under account number 4633.

Macmillan Cancer Support raises funds to do whatever it takes to give people living with and affected by cancer the support they need.

The likelihood of winning a prize in the Macmillan Lottery is 1 in 223.

Society Lottery after October 2023

From 6 October 2023 – 31 December 2023, £3,026,000 was raised from ticket sales in society lotteries promoted by Macmillan Cancer Support with 3% spent on prizes, 42% spent on expenses; and 55% being used to fund Macmillan’s work to give people living with and affected by cancer the support they need (based on Lottery Submissions made to the Gambling Commission during the 2023 calendar year).

This translated to a fantastic £1,664,000! The likelihood of winning a prize being, on average, 1 in 252.

Society Lotteries prior to October 2023

Prior to 6 October 2023, each Macmillan society lottery draw was promoted by one of four wholly owned subsidiary companies, each of which promoted society lotteries to raise funds that helped support different areas of Macmillan's work for people affected by cancer.

The four subsidiaries were each licensed and regulated in Great Britain by the Gambling Commission (www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk) as follows:

Macmillan Financial Grants Lottery Ltd

Provided funding for Macmillan financial grants to people affected by cancer in the UK.

Up to 6 October 2023, £2,867,000 was raised from ticket sales in society lotteries promoted by Macmillan Financial Grants Lottery Ltd, with 3% spent on prizes, 52% spent on expenses; and 45% being used to fund Macmillan financial grants (based on Lottery Submissions made to the Gambling Commission during the 2023 calendar year).

This translated to a fantastic £1,290,000! The likelihood of winning a prize being, on average, 1 in 239.

Macmillan Healthcare Lottery Ltd

Provided funding and support for Macmillan professionals including nurses engaged in health or social care and funding specially designed cancer treatment centres in the UK.

Up to 6 October 2023, , £2,096,000 was raised from ticket sales in society lotteries promoted by Macmillan Healthcare Lottery Ltd, with 6% spent on prizes, 49% spent on expenses; and 45% being used to fund Macmillan healthcare professionals (based on Lottery Submissions made to the Gambling Commission during the 2023 calendar year). This translated to a fantastic £943,000! The likelihood of winning a prize being, on average, 1 in 1031.

Macmillan Cancer Information Lottery Ltd

Provided funding for Macmillan information services including Cancer Information Centres, the Macmillan Support Line in the UK and cancer information development for people affected by cancer.

Up to 6 October 2023, £3,563,000 was raised from ticket sales in society lotteries promoted by Macmillan Cancer Information Lottery Ltd, with 3% spent on prizes, 41% spent on expenses; and 56% being used to fund Macmillan cancer information (based on Lottery Submissions made to the Gambling Commission during the 2023 calendar year).

This translated to a fantastic £1,995,000! The likelihood of winning a prize being, on average, 1 in 238.

Macmillan Influencing Cancer Care Lottery Ltd

Provided funding for Macmillan to support work to re-design and improve cancer care practice across the UK, including research and campaigning to improve cancer services, influencing cancer policy and raising awareness of the needs of people affected by cancer amongst key stakeholders and policy makers.

Up to 6 October 2023, £2,132,000 was raised from ticket sales in society lotteries promoted by Macmillan Influencing Cancer Care Lottery Ltd, with 3% spent on prizes, 40% spent on expenses; and 57% being used to fund Macmillan Influencing Cancer Care services (based on Lottery Submissions made to the Gambling Commission during the 2023 calendar year).

This translated to a fantastic £1,215,000! The likelihood of winning a prize being, on average, 1 in 237.
